A Time To Choose

Hi,

It's time to make a choice . . . for a pet bird. Consider the seven . . .

Would like to have this 'ornamental' bird. Very interesting but maintenance is costly. Got to build a swimming pool pond for it to play and laze. I can't afford.

This is another beautiful bird to rear as a pet but needs a special skill to catch it. Or do they have it on sale in the pet shop? Maybe no. If  I am not mistaken this bird is a protected animal. So look for some other.

This bird is too small to make a pet. I think it needs a gentle person to handle it. I am not. So forget it.

This is a big bird. Symbol of courage and dignity. But more of pride I think. Makes lots of sharp piercing sound. Will disturb the neighbors if I keep it.

Wonder whether this bird would be good pets. This bird is gregarious within own flock. They peck away other birds of their size but of a different look. So to keep them I think I need a few so that they don't feel lonely in the cage.

A bird that can sing quite well. A pet cum entertainer but it does not have nice colors on the body.

This bird is beautiful. Its calls are loud and sharp. It can disturb the neighbor. Better not to keep it.

The birds pictured above do not have the criteria I am looking for. I have to go look for other species perhaps there are others living there on the trees by the seaside.

Ah . . . my frivolous thinking . . .  I have never kept any pet at all in my life . . . anyway, birds are not meant to be caged . . .

The Quiet Saturday

Hello friends

For most people Saturday is a busy happy day. It is a day in the weekend when meetings, family get- together and organizing games and recreations take place and not to mention the Saturday night parties and  good time for the socialites.

In my working era I most welcome the Saturdays. A day that I could be away from the madhouse. The weekend was therefore a relief giving me a chance to focus on my home and family. Being low salaried I could not have go-travel-holiday Saturdays like those rich people. Apart from clearing the backlog of the household chores most of my time would be spent playing with my two children.

Once upon a time . . .
Now I need not worry, the pressure of work is already a thing of the past. Though I have all days to myself I still wait for Saturdays to come.

If I plan to visit my already grown up children, that will be on a Saturday. If I my children were to visit me I know they will arrive here on the 6th day of the week.

Then there is the wedding invitations . . .  ah again, on  Saturdays.

Our tennis monthly tournament is on the first Saturday of each month.

And the coming up fun run they are organizing also falls on a Saturday night.

Also on  Saturday too friends come to visit.

Once a Saturday . . .
This week our weekend start early. The children came home on Friday an extra work free day due to the Awal Muharram which is a public holiday. The hive of activities started on Friday night and I planned to take one of the girls for a swim on Saturday morning, i.e this morning as she demanded requested it.

But today, Saturday, the morning was gloomy with intermittent rain. It is difficult to make decision to go or not to go while here was a girl so eager to show me the proof that the swimming attire that I bought for her was well worth it, that she is real and serious about swimming.

While she was in the mood I better not disappoint her. We swam cautiously under the gloomy sky and light rain. But soon there was a sound of thunder in the distance. We had to stop. Anyway she was able to prove to me with  that few short laps.

(On the way home I kept thinking about my early girlhood days. I used to follow my mother and sometimes my grandma to pick kangkung di sawah bendang )

The lovable gerombolan  left after lunch. They have to go back early because of an invitation to a Saturday night function.

Its quiet now. A quiet Saturday afternoon.

Unusually quiet oriole - no calls

Contacted a friend for tennis. Its Saturday, the weekend children are back, sorry . . .

The tennis court is quiet today, no one is playing there. There is an away friendly game, a return game in the city. Every one wants the opportunity to play in some posh club. Others may have their own arrangements.

It is such a happening day, you know. What else can there be.

What a slowish internet I am having now . . . arrrggghhh . . .

Stay cool . . .

Bye . . .

New Year A Clean Start

Hi readers

It is now into the second week of the new year but I have not made any post yet before this. The fact is the article that I am working on that should be the opening post for this year hits a snag in its prep.

So it is better for me to up this short post rather than waiting for the intended one to be completed properly- all for your reading pleasure . . .

Reading pleasure?

Why would I say your reading my blog is good.

It is good because all what I write is simple and easy to digest .

I write in simple language so you don't need any dictionary.

I put forward my idea in such a straight thinking that you don't need to ponder much . . . no double talk . . . may be just a little . . .

If you say it is so shallow then it is good because you don't have to fathom deeper!

If you think what I tell I do is not appropriate you are not compelled to follow.

The subject I write about won't get you agitated like if you read the many political blogs on the net. You get annoyed for nothing.

You are also not getting bombarded by the ads on all those products that you may never need.

You may be some sixty year olds and may feel lonely among the young people and you feel too old for anything. Here my blog will  make you feel otherwise.

Or you may be someone young reading my blog tell your grandma to be up and about and not terperap in the house feeling that the end of the world is nigh . . .

So there I try to make you feel better after reading this blog.

Let us journey on into this new year with clear minds . . .

Shake off all the doubts . . . .learn from the bird . . .

Cleaning for the new year

My new year resolution is to resolve last year's.

Hope you have resolved yours :-)

Bye . . .

Where The Mind Can Be Free

 Hello

The alarm set off simultaneously with the rumblings from the sky. Oh again! The weather is so unpredictable nowadays.

Should I be complaining when just a few months back I was complaining about the dry weather? I know we cannot dictate and have everything our way. Just have to zigzag or meander through and try coming out undaunted. Its about adaptability and priority and choices. Should I be thinking too much . . .

And so if its a mundane job like ironing that you have to do so be it do it even though its six thirty in the morning since the rain does not allow you to be out and exercising.

If work is not what you are doing then its back to bed or may be sitting at the breakfast table longer than needed. I do not want to live the do nothing static idle life which will make me feel so useless.

Of course I know people don't care for all the old people's ramblings so I better offer to share with you something that you might find more interesting.

Continuing from my last posting here are more photos . . .

Birds are supposed to be here
The bird from the tree
Came down to the ground
Looking for food
More to find in the grass than on the tree?
No birds can be seen but can be heard
Only foliage lush and green
Tough tangle of roots
Looking up again there they are.The orioles. Do I need to come over here when I can "get" them in my very own backyard?

If they are not noisy its not so easy to spot them
It is nice to be where the mind can be free . . .

Have a beautiful day . . .

Bye . . .

Birds And Flowers

Hello again

A garden is dynamic.

Sometimes the garden will look fresh and green and cheerfully spotted by colorful flowers.

Trees bearing fruits will be visited by squirrels and birds. At night there might be bats and others. In my in - law’s kampung wild boars would also come.

Flowers which attract bees butterfly and birds will not be there for long. They wither.

During long hot spells some plants become lifeless. And water rationing may be on...hmm

Come rain they wake up happily becoming very fresh.

Too much rain they droop and stoop.

Some plants will die. New ones will replace.

That is nature. It is designed as such.

In your heart you wish the garden to always be green and flowers always in bloom and birds would be singing.

In reality you cannot have everything every time.

Oh why be so melancholy …

Take photos when the plants and flowers are in their prime. Capture them when it matters most. Store them in the memory of your computer….click open when you feel dull it may help to brighten up your day.

Faithfully cheering up the place

Planted a long time ago now flowers frequently

Orchid flowers only once a year

Cempaka . . . a history in my garden

Overwhelmed by leaves

Pure white untouched by birds

Monkey will see this destroyed
Birds like these flowers

Flowers that matter to birds

Anyway birds like trees to rest and  hide under its canopy .

Fruits are anytime better than flowers . Do they care about flowers.

The mulberries their favourite

Belimbing buluh? No TQ

A bird knows no boundaries their wings can take them anywhere . . .
#Oriole on my neighbour's rambutan tree
There's a place for everyone under the sun

And there's enough of everything...for you and for me..and for them...

Crossing tails

Why then be crossed...

Have a marvelous day.

#Oriole the Yellow Bird Came Knocking

Hello

Cooking curry is my forte. I was born into a family where curry makes almost the everyday main dish. but lately I myself think the taste is not par excellence. Why was that.

Perhaps its the curry powder. May be not. Or may be my method because lately I try to do a shortcut. You know something like dumping and mixing everything inside the pot and cook without controlling the flame properly.

So do it the proper way
  1. Heat the pot.
  2. Put oil
  3. heat oil (must)
  4. Add in onions shallots garlic curry leaves halba campur and cumin fry to bring out the aroma.
  5. Put in curry paste -- LOWER the flame. Cook until the oil comes out. This takes time. be patient, This is the step I think that can make or break the curry taste.(By this time the whole house should be smelling of curry)
  6. Put in the tamarind juice-coconut milk mixture making sure ratio of tamarind juice is higher.
  7. Put salt
  8. Put fish lady fingers tomatoes and green chilies. Boil on moderate flame until just cook.
  9. Sprinkle a little sugar..yes yes ..
Walla...

One day while I was cooking can't really remember whether it was curry or some other dish I noticed this outside my window

Usually I can hear its call but difficult to see because its hiding among the thick foliage of the gigantic rambutan tree on my neighbour's land.

It came onto a dukong branch just outside

Don't tell me it was the curry smell....

This is at the back window

hO  hOO

These photos were taken earlier on....

Such a beauty with pink lips beak black brow yellow plumage almost glowing

But always on the lookout ready to take a flight

Now gone so far away

That's all for now.

Bye..
