When Things Are Scarce

Hi everyone,

The mulberry tree in my compound is already old. It is now not producing as many fruits as before. Yet many birds still come for the berries especially the blackbirds with the glossy feathers and the red eyes.

In a time when there are lots of fruits, small blackbirds, fly in, pick and eat the berries quietly and then they go. Now that there are fewer fruits they are quite noisy and seen pecking and shoving each other.

But these two bigger birds (male koels?) caught my attention by their super loud aggressive cry. I saw them chasing each other among the mulberry branches and ended up on the gaharu tree where their behaviour became more intense. Surely they couldn't be just fooling around . . .

By the look of it, I think they were duelling. And whatever for, of course, I don't know. Can't understand their language. My guess, they were fighting for the territory (the mulberry tree, I mean). When food is scarce they become more territorial perhaps.

And the winner is . . .

When things are scarce . . . the effect is the same as in our human life. Don't you agree . . .

Till next entry, bye . . .

Don't Blame It On The #Hawk

Hi again

Just the other day I was complaining about the absence of birds in the vicinity and I put the blame on this hawk for frightening the birds away.

The hawk was not about to grab some other birds but it was about to scratch its head which I missed to photograph...sigh... slow me..

It was not attacking anybody but only wailing 'tweeeek  tweek...tweeeek..tweek'

No hoh! no hah!..only tweeeek...tweek....

I don't understand why it was  'tweeeek..tweek' ing  intermittently all day from very early morning into night falls. Even if the bird was not perched at that particular branch of the dried tree its soulful cry could still be heard.

From the first time I sighted it until at the time of continuing writing on this April fool day it has been three weeks.

Why would this bird stay on here for so long. May be there is a nest in the trees further back. If I were a boisterous young fellow I would have gone to explore. The time has past me.....

If my mother is still around then she might tell a story or two about hawks and crows. People of older generations had lots of superstitions. Birds can be messenger of fears or wonders depending on beliefs of people of the different cultures.

Me? If I pay too much attention to the sound of this bird I kind of like feeling some eeriness. Otherwise it is just another sound of nature. Too old to be affected.....

Well I was wrong blaming this hawk. I have  not seen it attacking any bird flying around or perching on the same tree instead the hawk itself was attacked by another big bird as I mentioned in my previous post here.

May be it does not eat small birds it will attack bigger birds that will give it a challenge. If that is the case this hawk has pride. That's why I think hawk appears in so many logos and emblems even rugby team and helicopters are named hawk....

A bird perched on the same tree
relek je..

Sometimes birds congregated here, though the hawk was not on the tree at the same time its call in the background was loud and clear...relek je ta de ape ape pun...

More birds ...

Even in the other favorite bird spot nearby birds came back to perch. So there were birds with many kinds of  calls but none can match the cry made by the hawk except the calls made  the #koels. They were like challenging each other. Bird orchestra.

So these two three days I was shooting around since birds seemed to come back and I am also trying out my new super zoom Nikon P900. The camera is a little heavier because of the longer lens. If I go on the maximum and when I got excited and not so steady then my picture blurs. If my picture appear substandard please excuse me. Can't get the same moment one so got to put up what is available.

Some pictures taken

Moon in the afternoon

The hawk pulling up its tail in a grooming session

Looking out for insect ?

Its better if you don't come...

Welcome back ...

Count on me i am always around..

Me too.....

There are more photos. Will be putting it up for future posts.

So till then...

bye....

Have Time For Mr #Koel

Hello and welcome again,

In the beginning I took up a hobby because it is the usual thing people do. Just for a diversion from the routine. Later on it became addictive. I am always looking forward to go for tennis or swim and if it rains it makes me go restless.

Of course I have other form of hobbies which I can do come rain or shine. I can do line dancing. Now I do not have a group anymore but I continue to do it alone at home. I do not want to forget the many many line dance steps that I have painstakingly learnt. It is a very enjoyable way to sweat.

I like to bake and decorate cakes. Since so far nobody has ever wanted me to decorate their cake for celebrating their important occasions that shows how good I am ha ha ...

You see I still offer my service.....and volunteer....

I have done cake like this

Its bulging here and there
and far from perfect they accepted it anyway so as not to kill my enthusiasm..

I consider cooking a hobby if its not done under duress. If so do quickly and be done with.

Here is something which we can do fast and quick yet nutritious

Put everything inside - rib pieces, big potato pieces, bundled roughly ground spices, chopped onions garlic and ginger (under the heap), salt.

Add water to cover the content close and set time

Done in 30 minutes.
Skim off the oily surface will make it more healthy

Now we have time for bird watching....

Welcome...

I like it here...

Cool and nice place

I can perch and stay longer

By the way you know me???

Me...Mr #Koel

I don't mind to make time to watch them and take their photographs.

Though the images are not very sharp to demonstrate the gloss and sheen and beauty of the bird I think we still can enjoy looking at them.

So long...bye..

My Name Is #Koel. I Am Female !!

Hi again

The best part of the day is in the morning. I always feel good. I don't mind anybody not wishing me a good morning though...

After a good night sleep you will be all charged up fresh and ready to go...oh really?

Mmmmm... I would go out and take a leisurely walk about the front yard of my house.

Enjoy the cool air and the light breeze .

Listen to the birds sound but be quick enough to hit the mosquito if they try to dive onto your skin.

Do some stretching.....

And a little bit of tai chi..for warming up

Usually I will continue my exercise with some dance routine if I don't feel like going for a swim. I would plug in some rumba cha cha or mambo music into my ears and ho there I go. I can go on and on and....its good exercise...but sometimes there is distraction....

Ho ho what are you...

Look like a reptile

Spots and Stripes

Red eye

I like mulberries

My place and no one else's

Mine my place

I am female

My name is koel

Bye..
